Welcome To the Municipal Training Academy "MTA"

The Municipal Training Academy (MTA) was introduced in the Fall of 1992. It is an educational and development division of the Miami Valley Communications Council. The goal is to provide municipal employees and elected officials an opportunity to strengthen their skills through customized training and development courses.

The purpose for the academy was initiated by the Council’s Gov-Tech Committee. The committee, comprised of city managers of the Council’s member cities, agreed the academy would be designed to accommodate all levels of employees, elected and appointed officials’ needs for job embedded training opportunities by offering many diverse talent and development training topics, and job specific certifications and trainings.
With input from member cities’ Human Resource Directors and an employee needs’ assessment was conducted to further define training needs. The data plays an instrumental role in the on-going development of the academy’s customized training. In addition, the academy now offers an e-library of trainings for a remote training environment.

Recent training programs have focused on customer service, supervisory and leadership skills, safety compliance programs, newly elected officials, ethics in government, computer training, most recent state and federal requirements effecting local government operations, and state requirements and mandates for COVID related situations.
