CodeRED is a service that enables municipalities to contact its citizens directly during an emergency situation and deliver specific instructions for how to deal effectively with emergency situations. This service has been used by other local governments to warn residents of natural disaster, hazardous spill situations, and public health notifications as well as to alert the public to missing persons.

  • CodeRED delivers notifications by phone calls to landlines and cell phones, emails, texts, social media, and/or mobile alerts
  • CodeRED is compatible with TDD/TTY devices for those with hearing impairments
  • Individuals and businesses may add as many phone numbers, emails and texts numbers as you’d like

13 local municipalities and townships, the MVCC CodeRED group, have subscribed to the service through the Miami Valley Communications Council. The CodeRED system uses GIS and database technologies and a high-speed dialer to allow public safety officials to select a population, create a message and deliver the message to the affected populace. This system quickly alerts the public to emergency situations that require immediate action (such as a boil-water notice, missing child or evacuation notices).

The municipalities involved with providing the CodeRED emergency notification service to their residents are MVCC member cities Centerville, Germantown, Kettering, Moraine, Oakwood, Springboro and West Carrollton. Other participants are Beavercreek, Monroe, Vandalia, Washington Township, Xenia and Yellow Springs.
