Supervisor Training Program

 SEPTEMBER  6th & 7th  2022 – TIPP CITY

The Supervisor Development Program focuses on critical skills needed for effective supervision and addresses many of the day to day demands and challenges of being a supervisor. This three day workshop is designed to be practical, engaging and provide ample opportunities to try out ideas and approaches. The workshop is delivered by a group of distinguished leaders who have real world experience.

September 6th & 7th – From 8am to 4pm

Day 1: Leadership

  • Identify the difference between leading and managing.
  • Recognize how personality affects the way you manage others.
  • Explore the best leadership practices for creating a culture of engagement.
  • Assess your leadership style while identifying your strengths and areas of growth.

Day 2: Communications 360 1/2 day

  • Recognize four core communication styles and how each person’s style contributes to the dynamics of a department or team
  • Identify how to approach others in the workplace, considering individual communication styles
  • Explore how conflicts escalate and practice strategies for turning conflict into constructive, productive conversations

Day 2: Effective Performance Management 1/2 day (Morning Session)

  • Set, communicate, and apply consistent standards within and among work groups
  • Provide constructive feedback and set realistic goals to build your best workforce
  • Identify and overcome obstacles to effective performance management and evaluations
  • Address difficult performance issues
  • Review strategies to keep your high performers engaged
  • Apply newly learned techniques with your colleagues in the region

Brenda Kraner, Ph.D., is the Program Director, Master of Organizational Leadership and Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership at Wilmington College. She is a leadership consultant with over 25 years of experience in improving individual and organizational performance. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Otterbein University, an M.A. in Applied Behavioral Science from Wright State University, and a Ph.D. in Workforce Development and Education from The Ohio State University.

Jenny Smith, Patti Houser and Amanda Harold With nearly 40 years combined experience in Human Resources, the City of Kettering HR Management team will guide you through the often-dreaded task of evaluating your employees and establishing a more holistic approach to performance management. Jenny Smith, Human Resource Director; and Patti Houser and Amanda Harold, HR Managers from the City of Kettering will present this workshop, which is beneficial not only for the new supervisor, but also for the experienced supervisor who is looking for a fresh approach to performance management.

New and existing supervisors, team or crew leads, or anyone with people responsibilities seeking to improve their supervisory effectiveness.
