Janitorial supply company cleans up
Years before he ever had the notion of owning a janitorial and sanitary supply business, Dave Kling heard a catchy line during a business meeting: “We’re No. 1 in the No. 2 business.”

So when he bought the cleaning and paper supplies distributor, Scottissue Inc. in 1990, Kling slapped the slogan on the company’s vehicles and set about making it true.

He’s come pretty close. Dayton-based Scottissue has grown from $3.1 million in sales in 2004 to $6.7 million last year. Earning only $1.2 million in 1990, the company has strengthened sales through acquisitions and an active online sales presence, said the 78-year-old Kling. Employment has also grown from about 14 in 2004 to 28 today.

The Results Are In!
In 2008, the City of Moraine contacted Wright State University’s Center for Urban and Public Affairs (CUPA) to complete a survey of Moraine residents and businesses. The purpose of the survey was two fold, first to assess resident satisfaction with postal services in the City of Moraine, and second to assess satisfaction with City services.

This survey studied the opinions of Moraine residents and businesses about various issues regarding living and working in Moraine. Generally, responses between the residential and business surveys were similar (on questions that were asked of both).

Overall, responses to most questions were very favorable, with over 95 percent of business leaders indicating that they are satisfied with Moraine as a place to do business and 94 percent of residents indicating satisfaction with Moraine as a place to live. When asked about specific City services; Police, Fire, Paramedics, streets, snow removal, and City employees in general, the responses were overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, 99.3 percent were satisfied or very satisfied with paramedic services.
