Administrative Assistant I

[Part-time, 32 hours per week]

The Miami Valley Communications Council (MVCC) is a council of governments providing public access television channels, facilitating intergovernmental projects and cooperative programs designed to strengthen member cities’ capacity to deliver services to their communities more effectively and efficiently.

MVCC is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Administrative Assistant I position to provide assistance in a variety of activities relating to bookkeeping, accounting, clerical, and office tasks and duties.

The primary responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant I include:

  • Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions
  • Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases
  • Audits invoices against purchase orders, researches discrepancies
  • Prepares vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records, and reviews for accuracy
  • Assists employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services
  • Coordinates meetings; prepare agendas; records and transcribes meeting minutes
  • Keeps inventory of office and janitorial supplies and makes purchases when needed
  • Answers incoming telephone calls and forwards calls to appropriate personnel
  • Performs other clerical duties as needed, such as filing, photocopying, collating, and management of mail

Work Experience & Education

  • Associate’s Degree, or equivalent, from a two-year college or technical school; or one year of recent related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Local government experience helpful

Required Skills:

  • Public servant orientation and strong customer service focus
  • Knowledge of basic accounting, bookkeeping, office practices and procedures, and record management
  • Ability to effectively deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications
  • Able to handle sensitive inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public
  • Ability to handle all work with a high sense of accuracy
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with knowledge of accounting, spreadsheet, database, and word processing software
  • Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License

Expected Starting Pay Range: $16.66 - $19.12 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits (including OPERS participation)
