MVCC wins 3 Philo Awards

MVCC Producers Win 3 Philo T. Farnsworth Awards for Best Public Access Television in Central States 
 
Viewers tuning in to the four public access channels of the Miami Valley Communications Council (MVCC) are watching some of the best local programming in the country, and the 2019 Philo T. Farnsworth Award results continue to acknowledge this commitment to quality community television.
Three television programs created by MVCC staff and by local producers are among the winners of the 2019 Philo T. Farnsworth Awards, recognizing excellence in cable programming within the Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan region. The award winners will be honored at the Alliance for Community Media Central States Region’s 2019 Philo Festival of Arts in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 17, 2019. 
 
Miamisburg Public Information Officer Gary Giles and MVCC Government Producer Richard Diaz received the Winner award for the program Miamisburg Bicentennial: A Look Back in the Community Event General (Professional) category. This television feature celebrated two hundred years of Miamisburg history with a focus on the Bicentennial events held the week of June 16 through June 23 of 2019.  Miamisburg Bicentennial: A Look Back is also nominated for Excellence in Directing, with the winner to be announced on October 17, 2019.
 
Gary Giles, Richard Diaz, and the MVCC production team were also a Winner with Miamisburg Bicentennial: Closing Day Parade in the Community Event General-Parades/Festivals (Professional) category. This was the second parade of the Bicentennial Week, and the event was filled with guest appearances and organizations honoring the rich history of the City of Miamisburg. Gary Giles was the announcer for this event, along with State Representative Scott Lipps. 
 
Local sports producer and MVCC Game of the Week announcer Jared Bergstrom was a Winner for Fairmont Firebirds District Championship Hype Video in the Sports Entertainment (non-professional) category. This is the second Philo award won by Jared Bergstrom, who was a Winner in 2017 for Miamisburg Vikings vs La Salle Lancers highlights in the Sports Coverage (non-professional) category.
 
In addition, MVCC Government Producer Joe MacKenzie was nominated for Excellence in Directing for the production Centerville Snow Removal, a showcase for the efforts of the Centerville Public Works Department to keep the roadways safe for motorists in the winter.
 
In total, The Miami Valley Communications Council has received over 200 Philo T. Farnsworth Awards in recognition of the quality local programming provided to residents, and viewers can watch these programs and more on demand at www.mvcc.video. 
 
The Alliance for Community Media is a nonprofit, national organization founded in 1976 which represents over 3000 public, educational, and government (PEG) access organizations and community media centers across the United States. The Central States Region services Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan.
