VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Community Television has been a part of the cable landscape since the inception of franchising in the late 1950's. Often referred to as Access TV, community television is the equivalent of an electronic editorial page.

For a nominal fee, community television staff trains citizens to use video equipment and produce their own television programs. After becoming trained, these individuals may then use the equipment free of charge in order to produce programs for the community channels. MVCC, and other facilities of this type, are funded through franchise fees paid by the local cable operator in exchange for the use of the cities' rights of way.

The Miami Valley Communications Council has an active video volunteer program for area residents of all ages. Volunteers trained in video production contribute to a large portion of the programming seen on MVCC's channels. Volunteers at MVCC are involved in a wide range of productions that are fun and offer an opportunity for more video production experience, as well as networking with their peers. Volunteer produced programs are eligible for various national, state and regional video competitions.
