24. John Beck House

15 Iron Gate Park Dr.

The two-story four-room stone house was built in 1820 by John and Sarah Beck.  There are keystone arches over the cellar and first floor windows, as well as finely finished stones used for the front (Main Street side) of the houses.  Although John died in 1841, Sarah continued to live there until her death in 1862.  After a brief ownership by John Allen, the house was purchased by Frank Harris in 1867.  Three generations of the Harris family owned the house until 1936.  They were responsible for the frame additions, the unique bay window, and the front gable added to the roof.  Frank Arnold and his wife owned the house from 1845 to 1965, removing the front porch and adding a screened side entry.  It was a beauty shop in the 1970s.  For more information on our stone houses.
