30. First Baptist Church

38 N. Main St.

This was the site of the Centerville Academy, a private school for men. The limestone academy building was closed during the Civil War due to a lack of students. In 1866, the property was purchased by the Sugar Creek Baptist Church and renovated into a house of worship. The building was razed in 1872 and a new church was built. This church is the central portion of the present day church.
