DUTIES & ACTIVITIES OF VOLUNTEER BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

Planning Commission- (5 members)

Meets on 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. (Requires some individual study time)

Studies and makes recommendations to city council on proposed zoning ordinance map and text changes; reviews and approves proposed subdivisions; and reviews and updates the city comprehensive plan.

 

Board of Zoning Appeals - (5 members)

Meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. (Requires some individual study time)

An independent body which interprets the city's zoning ordinance; reviews and decides upon applications for conditional uses; and can grant variances to the zoning ordinance under unusual circumstances.

 

Recreation Board - (5 members – 2 appointed by West Carrollton School Board)

Meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

An advisory board to city council and staff; develops plans and recommends policies for recreation programs and facilities; acts as liaison between citizens and city government on recreational needs.

 

Personnel Appeals Board - (3 members)

Meets as necessary.

Hears appeals by city employees who have been suspended in excess of three days. Also serves as the Civil Service Commission for the West Carrollton city school district.

 

Income Tax Board of Review - (3 members)

Meets as necessary.

Makes decisions when a disagreement occurs between the income tax administrator and a taxpayer.

 

Board of Water and Sewer Charge Adjustment - (1 citizen member, 1 council member and 1 city staff member)

Meets as necessary.

A board which hears requests for adjustments in water and sewer charges when application of the water and sewer charge ordinance may result in an inequitable situation.

 

City Beautiful Commission - (15 members)

Meets on 2nd Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Some additional time is required for special projects.

A special purpose organization established to encourage government, business, industry and residents to participate in improvement of the city's appearance.

 

Property Maintenance Code Appeals Board - (5 members)

Meets as necessary on 2nd Wednesday of month. Requires some individual study time.

An independent body which decides appeals by property owners where it is alleged that an error has been made in the interpretation or decisions made by building inspectors in the enforcement of the property maintenance code. The board can also grant variances from the code in limited circumstances to provide reasonable time to complete required work to abate violations.

 

Business Advisory Council - (7 members)

Meets on 2nd Wednesday of each month at noon. Requires some individual study time.

A body of business leaders which provides advice to city council concerning programs, policies and capital improvements which impact city businesses; advances economic development in the city; and gives development of long-term economic development strategies.

 

Technical Advisory Group - (9 members)

Meets as necessary on 1st Tuesday of the month. Requires some individual study time.

Objectives: To guide and advise city council and staff concerning programs, policies, and technological improvements which have or have an impact in the city; to increase citizen/community involvement in the application of technology; and to increase cooperative efforts with other area/regional resources.
