City Council met in public session on May 5th. Here are the highlights.

Plans are in place for a grand celebration of Oakwood’s 100th birthday. Targeted audiences include Oakwood residents – past, present and future – and friends and neighbors in the Dayton region.  Led by co-chairs Madeline Iseli and Dick Good, the broad based volunteer leaders have designed a centennial celebration with wide appeal and open admission.  The planning effort began over two years ago, has involved well over 100 citizens, and has included well over 100 meetings… get the theme?

The city has been monitoring the ash trees in the  right of ways and public spaces since the introduction of the Emerald Ash Borer and has not found any confirmed infestations.  The city continues to monitor the trees on a regular basis. In 2007, Oakwood treated 102 trees in public area with an insecticide called Imicide.  This year Oakwood will continue the EAB program by treating trees between the sidewalk and curb and in other right of way areas.  This public area work will be done at no cost to property owners.

During our 2008 centennial year, the Oakwood Historical Society is publishing a series of historical articles about our city.  These articles are being printed in the weekly Oakwood Register newspaper.  With permission from the Oakwood Historical Society and Oakwood Register, we are including these articles herein.
