Situational Leadership
What is it and how do I use it?

The Situational Leadership Model is a tool to help you better lead and manage your employees. It is not enough to know that there are four leadership styles—you need to know which to use in each unique leadership situation. A leadership style is how you behave (work or coach) with someone when you are trying to influence their performance.
The Situational Leadership model teaches individuals how to match their behaviors to the performance needs of the individual or group that they are attempting to influence. This strategy encourages leaders to take stock of their team members, weigh the many variables in their workplace and choose the leadership style that best fits their goals and circumstances. In the words of leadership theorist Ken Blanchard, “In the past a leader was a boss. Today’s leaders can no longer lead solely based on positional power.”In the course you will learn to do the following:
• Understand what Situational Leadership is
• Assess your own personal and preferred situational leadership style
• Understand style choice as it relates to employee development.
• Apply Situational Leadership to your supervisory role
• Be able to identify situations for using each of the four situational leadership styles
• Establish rapport and bring out the best in people
