Flow Monitoring Basics
Course Overview:

The presentation will focus on the components that comprise a flow monitoring program for wastewater systems administered through the Municipal Utility Department.  The course will include all aspects of a flow monitoring program including:

  • Identifying Monitoring Goals
  • Rain Gauge Requirements
  • Monitor Site Selection and Access
  • Monitor Selection
  • Monitor Installation
  • Data Review and QA/QC

The presentation will look at why a community should set up a flow monitoring program and potential benefits.  It will also highlight a case study where flow monitoring was used to calibrate a model that was able to show that a previously planned equalization basin was not needed to meet the community’s regulatory requirements and reduce overflows.

The informational presentation qualifies for professional development credit towards Professional Engineering (P.E.) renewal and is approved by the Ohio EPA.
