7. Nathaniel Strong House

63 W. Franklin St.

 

The original part of this house, a one-room cottage built in the 1830s, is now the western portion of the front. It has a quarried stone basement with widely spaced sawn and hewn joists supporting the building.  In the loft above this part of the building, large hewn timbers and braced framing can be seen. The east front section was added about 1840 and also employed braced framing. The rear section was added later, and the siding was added to the whole building at the turn of the century.
