31. Kleckner's Ice Cream Shop

30 N. Main St.

Once used as an ice cream store in the 1930s, this building is one of the first frame houses built in Centerville. The original house, built about 1812 and now the front portion of the building, was a simple two-room gable house with a centered front door and a window on each side. The house has braced frame construction, notched and hand hewn floor joists, and hand hewn beams and rafters, and rests on a roughcut limestone foundation and cellar. A small addition was constructed in the 1830s to the rear of this building. This addition reveals pit sawn beams and rafters. Only a portion of the roof is visible as this addition is now completely enclosed by the 1930s concrete block construction.
