23. Joseph Beck House

94 N. Main St.

This two-story stone house was built in 1837. Joseph, the son of John Beck and the grandson of Aaron Nutt, served as town constable in 1834.  He bought this land in 1837.  He then sold it to his former business partner John S. McDonald.  In 1855, James Hillan opened the Hillan Hotel which was probably more of a rooming house than a hotel.  1864, the house was sold to John L. Hole, grandson of Dr. John Hole.  More recently known as the Beasley Building, it is currently a real estate office. The "Tara" style front porch and the rear addition are recent additions.  For more information on our stone houses.
