3 N. Main St.
![]() |
This two-story brick structure was built by James Harris in the late 1830s as a dry goods store. It replaced an earlier (1815) building damaged or destroyed in 1835. The building has an 18 inch thick quarried limestone foundation and features Flemish bond brickwork on three sides of the building. This building has a hip roof and double chimney which were unique in Centerville. For years it was a general store under a series of owners/shopkeepers including Joseph P. Benham, William B. Davis and Earl Decker. The the 1950s and 60s it was Centerville's primary grocery as Centerville Market IGA. From 1964 to 1980, the building housed the Centerville Pharmacy owned by Jack Gramann. Of late, it has housed retail shops. |
